SM-5 Active Monitor

The studio and sound mastering world is considerably different from the consumer world. In this world sound may be subjective, but "accuracy" is not.

By integrating dual high-current power amplification tailored precisely to maximize the potential of it's proprietary drive units the SM-5 Active Monitor offers listeners unparalled sonic performance and ergonomic integration. Though designed primarily as a monitoring tool for critical studio mastering the SM-5 can easily be integrated into an ultra high-quality, yet simple, reference level 2-channel music or multi-channel home-theater application.

The SM-5's mid/bass driver uses a very powerful machine-cast motor structure and oversized voice-coil with a Kapton former to maintain articulation and dynamic control during high SPL's. The SM-5's mid/bass diaphragm is constructed from a proprietary Kevlar/Carbon-Fiber hybrid material of our own design which is very similar in principle to our Vi-series mid/bass drive unit. This gives the driver a very low mass for transient attack and dynamic scope while remaining extremely pistonic under high acceleration during heavy use. The SM-5's matched soft dome tweeter diaphragm constructed from a feather light extremely low mass Fabric-Composite material which is then further treated though a vapor deposit process for accurate high frequency reproduction up to 30kHz without becoming fatiguing.

The active control panel on the SM-5 allows the user to make SPL and room equalization adjustments-for Low, Mid and High-with incredible ease to fine tune the sound to his or her own personal listening tastes. These controls can also be easily switched off/bypassed for the purest signal stream possible from the incoming source-such as a mixing board.
